Malone Center Hosts Pregnant and Parenting Support Groups through January 2022

In partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln, the Malone Community Center (malonecenter.org) is offering Melanin Mommas Pregnant and Parenting Support Groups on the first and third Saturday of each month through January 8, 2022 (there will only be one group on May 19, 2-4 p.m., because of the holiday). First Saturday groups will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon and the third Saturday groups run from 2 to 4 p.m. Groups will take place at the Malone Center, 2032 U St. This free event is for pregnant and parenting mommas and their babies! There will be light healthy snacks, participation prizes, open discussion time, and educational materials to take home. This is an opportunity to discuss the ups and downs of breastfeeding, navigating motherhood, and building your support network.

The Malone Community Center’s wellness programs are dedicated to combating the inequities and disparities in Black infant and maternal health while providing safe and culturally competent care. Programs focus on decreasing Black infant and maternal mortality and morbidity rates and increasing breastfeeding rates by implementing initiatives that include education, empowerment, support, access to healthcare resources, and client services during pregnancy, and a year+ after childbirth. Since May 2019, the Malone’s breastfeeding support programs have served over 34 BIPOC families. To learn more, go online to malonecenter.org or check out the Facebook page (@MaloneCommunityCenter).
