Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach Celebrates Over 3K Volunteers
During National Volunteer Appreciation Month, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (mtko.org/volunteer) is celebrating the more than 3,000 volunteers of all ages who give their time, talent, and treasure to assist with agency operations. For 26 years and counting, compassionate volunteers have come to Matt Talbot to provide, prepare and serve hot nutritious meals to the working poor and homeless in Lincoln. Many volunteers also assist with administrative tasks and outreach programs such as laundry and shower services. These volunteers, some of whom have been around for all 26 years, are tireless in their efforts to provide nourishment for the body and spirit.
Last year, volunteers provided more than 35,000 hours of labor (valued at $572,965) and $245,725 in food donations for meals. With over 900 volunteers helping each month, Matt Talbot coordinates one of the largest volunteer efforts in the Lincoln community.
“Matt Talbot exists because of the compassion and vision of volunteers who saw an unmet need in our community in 1992”, said Susanne Blue, executive director. “Our volunteers are awesome and continue to make a substantial investment in Matt Talbot. We simply couldn’t provide the services we do without their help.”
