Matt Talbot to Honor Longtime Community Partners at “Feeding the Soul of the City”
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach’s (mtko.org) 15th annual Feeding the Soul of the City fundraiser is scheduled for June 17 at Junto Wine and is open to the public. Two longtime community partners—John Turner and the St. Francis & St. Claire Hunger Relief Team—will be honored with Compassion in Action awards for their dedication to defeating hunger and homelessness and restoring hope among individuals and families experiencing homelessness. All money raised supports continued outreach and support of the homeless, near homeless and hungry in Lincoln.
John Turner has advocated for people experiencing homelessness for nearly 30 years through his work at Community Action, CenterPointe, Region V, and now at Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA). He has been active with the Lincoln Homeless Coalition and Governor’s Commission on Housing and Homelessness, and he goes above and beyond to address housing barriers for people who have experienced homelessness, substance abuse and mental health challenges. The St. Francis & St. Claire Hunger Relief Team comprises a multigenerational family that has served dinner on the fourth Thursday of every month for 21 years, preparing a homemade, nutritious, and thoughtful menu that is different each time. The team is always at Matt Talbot on Thanksgiving to serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast with all the fixings.
The community is invited to attend the Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach Feeding the Soul of the City event to help defeat hunger and homelessness in Lincoln! Enjoy delectable pairings of Junto wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres along with a cash bar and snacks. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. To join a special VIP experience that starts at 5:30 p.m., contact Vicky at (402) 477-4116.
