Mourning Hope Partners with First-Plymouth Church to Host The Spirit of Giving

The Mourning Hope Grief Center (mourninghope.org) and First-Plymouth Church are partnering together to host The Spirit of Giving on Thursday, December 9. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mourning Hope Grief Center and allow children who have experienced the death of a parent or primary caregiver to shop for a holiday gift for their surviving caregiver.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ramadan, Kwanza, and New Year’s Day are annual holidays that can prove difficult for people who have experienced the death of someone significant. When a parent or primary caregiver has died, how does a child find the means to purchase and wrap a gift for their surviving caregiver? Many of the youth at Mourning Hope want to put a smile on their loved one’s face, and celebrating the spirit of giving brings the child great joy during a season that can be emotionally challenging for the whole family.

For the second year in a row, First-Plymouth Church is teaming up with Mourning Hope to support children in this gift-giving endeavor. Shopping for their caregiver is a rewarding and emotionally satisfying part of the holiday season, and children who have experienced the death of a caregiver and have attended any Mourning Hope grief support programs are invited to participate in this special event designed just for them.

The Mourning Hope Grief Center provides free grief support programs and services. Learn more at mourninghope.org.
