Fresh Start (freshstarthome.org/get-involved), a Lincoln nonprofit supporting women experiencing homelessness, has launched a campaign for Giving Tuesday (Dec. 1, 2026) that seeks to replace all twenty-four resident beds, including frames, headboards, bed linens and pillows.
Fresh Start Executive Director Monica Zinke shared that the current beds were purchased in 2007, when the shelter moved to its current Havelock location. The beds have reached the end of their functional life span and urgently need replacement.
Ms. Zinke explained, “Twenty-four women in our care need new beds & bedding. Today through Giving Tuesday, we’re on a mission to give every one of them a fresh start. Behind every bed we replace is a woman who is rebuilding her life from the ground up. A safe, comfortable place to sleep isn’t a luxury — it’s the foundation everything else gets built on.”
Over its 35-year history, Fresh Start has served more than 2,000 women and maintains a constant waitlist for services. Fresh Start is the only program in Nebraska accredited through the National
Association of Recovery Residences (NARR). Check their progress and make a gift online: freshstarthome.org/get-involved.
