Southeast Community College Donates Unused Food to Lincoln Nonprofits

Southeast Community College (SCC; www.southeast.edu) has donated about $2,500 worth of food to local organizations, including the Lincoln Food Bank and the People’s City Mission. The food came from SCC’s grill and café, which has been closed since March 19 due to COVID-19, leaving the grill with an overabundance of food.

“Being able to donate the food to the citizens of our community on behalf of SCC has been such a great experience,” said Shalaia Schrunk, an SCC chef. “The kitchen manager at the People’s City Mission was so grateful for the food to help provide sustenance to those in the shelter, as well as those who are unable to stay there due to the coronavirus.”

Items donated during the last couple of months included produce, dairy products, snacks, frozen meats, salad dressings, frozen breads, pastries, desserts, and beverages. Schrunk said SCC is pleased to know that it is helping those who need it most. For more information about the SCC food and dining options, visit www.southeast.edu/foodanddining.
