TeamMates and Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center Unite for Community Service Project

TeamMates of Lincoln (teammates.org) is excited to partner with Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center (SNCC; leadingcancercare.com) for a special community care initiative. During the month of December, TeamMates mentors and mentees will support SNCC by making 600 soft, fabric hearts, which will be distributed by the Center and given to patients at the beginning of their treatment. SNCC has also generously donated funds to offset a portion of the costs of the 2019-20 TeamMates of Lincoln community service projects.

SNCC strives to treat their patients with compassion. Dr. Stavas, physician at the SNCC, developed the ‘Heart to Hold’ project to ease the suffering of those battling cancer. Dr. Stavas believes that squeezing the soft hearts releases patients’ nervous energy and holds amazing power by letting them know they are not alone in their battle. When the treatment concludes, they can bring the heart back and transfer it to another patient.

Other recipients of TeamMates community service projects for this school year include Bryan NICU, Fresh Start, Whitehall Mansion, Lincoln Libraries, military personnel, the Cat House, and Camp Kesem.
