WellCare Sponsors Community Action Head Start Family Health and Wellness Festival

WellCare of Nebraska (WellCare) generously sponsored Community Action Head Start’s Family Health and Wellness Festival (communityactionatwork.org) on May 21. Games, snacks, music, prizes, and fun were all part of this year’s family-friendly informational event, which took place at Community Action’s K Street Head Start Center in Lincoln and focused specifically on Head Start children and their families.

Community Action Head Start programs provide high-quality, dual-generation early childhood education services to children, from birth to age five, and their families living in poverty. Through full-day, full-year center-based services at two locations in Lincoln, as well as a home-based curriculum option, children gain the skills necessary to enter kindergarten and the years beyond ready to reach their full potential. Families, meanwhile, gain the skills and supports needed to successfully foster their child’s development beyond the classroom.

At this year’s Wellness Festival, over 186 children and family members participating in Community Action Head Start attended. Participants had the opportunity to learn from community partners, such as Southeast Community College, Read Aloud Lincoln, UNL Extension, Lincoln Pediatric Dentistry, and participate in health/wellness related activities. Some lucky participants even received gift baskets complete with supplies to promote childhood health and wellness.
