NCBB Volunteer Inducted Into Donation Hall of Fame
Sixteen years ago, Pat Yahnke was inspired to donate blood by her husband Ken, a long-time donor. Today, she continues to donate, and also enjoys volunteering in the canteen at donor centers and blood drives.
“We are lucky to have her on our team,” said Erica Busta, manager of volunteer services at Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB; NCBB.org/volunteer). “Pat is humble about all that she does, saying, ‘I just talk to people and hopefully make their journey a little more enjoyable.’ Her warmth, helpful attitude, and fun personality undoubtedly do.”
Pat is one of 12 to be inducted into the Donation Hall of Fame. She was selected from hundreds of nominations from blood banks across the nation. This annual honor is sponsored by Fresenius Kabi, a global healthcare company
Pat also volunteers for the American Cancer Society, a cause she has been passionate about since her sister battled breast cancer. Pat helped establish a Relay for Life in Waverly and she continues to advocate and fundraise for the organization. She also regularly drives cancer patients to their medical appointments.
Generous volunteers like Pat are vital to the function of NCBB—they put a friendly face to its life-saving mission. NCBB is looking for volunteer drivers, canteen hosts, and help for special events in Lincoln and Omaha. Learn more at NCBB.org/volunteer or contact Erica at ebusta@ncbb.org.
