Colin Electric Motor Service Company, Inc. (CEMSCO®) emerged from the Springfield Traction Company; a Missouri based rebuilder of trolley car motors. The Company originally founded as Sterling Electric, by John W. Bartlett, moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1912. Mr. Bartlett was issued the second Masters Electrician License in the state of Nebraska. During these early years, the area of electrical wiring was the Company’s specialty, but as motors and controls became more prevalent, the Company began emphasizing this end of the business.
Shortly after World War II, the Company began marketing its motor/control expertise under the name of Colin Electric Motor Service Company and completely phased out the wiring service by 1980. Under the leadership of Robert E. Colin, Sr., (Bartlett’s nephew), CEMSCO® became a company known regionally for its expertise in sales, service and the remanufacture of electric motors and controls. Today, Ronald L. Colin (Sr’s son), Chairman & CEO, charts the Company on an international basis with new technology in predictive maintenance and computerized motor controls.
