How did you get started in the business? – I got my first pair of glasses at age 10, and came to realize the impact good vision had on my life throughout the years. I had always considered a career in the health field, and after ruling out some other options, optometry ended up being the right fit for me.
Tell me a little about your family. – I have three younger sisters: Natalie, Megan and Dana. Two of them are married and Dana just started her freshman year of college. We grew up on a small farm in Saunders County, where my parents still live. I also have a young niece and a nephew whom I really enjoy spending time with!
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Making the decision to go to optometry school. Obviously, it was the starting point of my career, but having to move out of Nebraska to attend school forced me to leave my comfort zone and grow personally as well.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Sleep in! If the weather is nice, I like to spend some time outdoors in the sun. During the winter, I bake to satisfy my sweet tooth.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Most people know I’ve been involved in different athletic activities over the years, but not many know I was part of a National Runner-Up Co-ed Flag Football team. I also really enjoy history and get sucked in to documentaries.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – The ability to teleport, so I can easily get to all the places I’d like to travel to.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Playing the piano.
Which talent would you most like to have? – To be creative or artistic. I have always wondered what being able to whistle is like too.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – It is hard for me to imagine being anything besides an optometrist, but I think I would have made a good accountant or a mediator. I really admire teachers/educators and their ability to pass along knowledge to others.
What is your favorite movie? – Anything with that makes me think, with a good plot and some degree of suspense.
What is your favorite TV show? – My all-time favorite show is Alias; I have all of the seasons on DVD. There are several shows I watch currently, including The Good Wife, NCIS, Criminal Minds and Downton Abbey.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Eleanor Roosevelt.
