Tell us a little about your business. – Salt Mine City Brewing Co. (saltminecity.com) is a small batch brewery from David City, NE. We brew on a 31 gallon system, giving us great consistency. Our brewmaster, Tom, has brewed up 40 different beers in the last 3 years, and we are continuing to add to that. We also have a fantastic food menu.
How did you get started in the business? – My roommate in college got me a job at the Garden Cafe as a line cook/baker, and then I moved up from there.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Learning how to run a business was the biggest challenge.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Opening a brewery and seeing how happy our customers are with the product they have received.
Tell us a little about your family. – My wife Kris and I live in David City with our two dogs LuLu and Baker.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – The day I called my wife and told her I purchased two commercial properties. That was the beginning of Salt Mine City.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy golfing with friends and brewery hopping with my wife.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I listen a lot.
Who inspires you? – Henry Rollins from Black Flag and the Rollins Band. He has written a ton of books and does a little spoken word performances.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – I have used this quote quite a bit lately just because it gives me a little kick in the ass.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Patient or understanding.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – The Zephyr Song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Flight. Fuel is expensive.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Forestry. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, always wanting to fight forest fires and drive a log truck.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with? – Make a Wish.
What is your favorite movie? – I have three. In my youth, it was the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in my early adult years, I saw Armageddon about a hundred times, and lately, I’m watching Equalizer 3.
What is your favorite TV show? – The Bear. It’s just so good!
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Mine. I’m kind of biased. Kris and I met at Randy’s Grill ‘n Chill, so that holds a little place in my heart too.
