Meet Deborah Wyrrick, the president of Red Clover Market.
Tell us a little about your business. – Red Clover Market is a full-service health food store offering natural and organic foods, supplements, skin care, aromatherapy, and more.
How did you get started in the business? – I was a regular shopper at a health food store in Tulsa, OK where I’m from. I eventually got a job there and stayed with them for 27 years. I was mentored by the owner, a business grad from Tulsa University. He was not only an astute businessman but a wonderful family man. I grew to know and love his entire family.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Having four Natural Food chain stores open, three of them in the first three years of me buying Red Clover Market. Times were lean but we kept going.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Owning my own store and guiding it through the many challenges that come and go.
Tell us a little about your family. – I have two sons, Jacob who works in the store along with his wife Crystal, and Jesse who just moved to South Dakota.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Turning to Christ for forgiveness of my sins.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Right now, I’m enjoying spending time with my new grandson Finan Grey. He is my one and only grandchild. Time with him is time I treasure.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I doubt it’s all that interesting but in fifth grade, I made it to the finals in our school’s spelling bee. It was down to me and a boy named Richard. The word was, I thought, profit. I didn’t ask for the definition and the word ended up being prophet. The top prize went to Richard. It was a sting but I recovered pretty quickly.
Who inspires you? – My mother. She is no longer living but her perseverance in raising five children mostly on her own with love and humor and never a complaint inspires me every day.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful, to make the most of what we have, to be happy with simple pleasures, and have courage when things go wrong.” – Laura Ingalls Wilder
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Giving.
