Star City Six – Grant Carter

Lincoln Federal Savings Bank (www.lincolnfed.com) is a 114-year-old mutual holding company owned by its depositors. Grant Carter is the vice president, commercial loan officer at Lincoln Federal Savings Bank.

Tell us a little about your business.

The bank has a strong reputation for being a residential mortgage lender, however, we are trying to increase our commercial real estate loan portfolio, which is the area I work in. We just built a new corporate office at 8400 Maddox Dr. off of 84th and Van Dorn, so reach out to me if you want a tour.

How did you get started in the business?

I began working as a teller at a bank while I was in college. Over the years, I have worked in different areas of banking giving me the necessary experience to finally settle into the role of a loan officer.

Tell us a little about your family.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart Jennifer for almost 18 years. We have four children: Jadeon (13), Gianna (11), Jillian (8), and Josie (6). Our three oldest children swim competitively so a large part of our time is spent at the pool, whether it’s for practice or a swim meet. When we have free time at home we love playing cards and board games, which can get pretty intense and competitive.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?

Having children. The moment you become a parent, your whole life changes. I can’t think of anything more rewarding than being a parent.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

When my work and family calendar is clean, I actually prefer to relax at home. Life can pretty hectic from time to time, so I like to decompress by spending time with my wife and kids around the home.

Who inspires you?

My wife, definitely. The amount of energy and strength it takes to keep our family functioning is amazing, yet she makes it seem so easy. Seeing her be the wife and mom she is each and every day gives me the motivation I need to be the best version of myself.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

I would definitely want to be able to see into the future. We offer competitive rates and terms at Lincoln Federal, but it would make it a lot easier knowing how the market and interest rates are going to adjust well into the future.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Singing. I enjoy music but I do any song a huge injustice by trying to sing it. I’m pretty sure my family would agree.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be?

Broadcaster for the Chicago Cubs. I’ve been a huge Cubs fan since I was a kid, going to Wrigley Field on a daily basis would be amazing.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why?

Along with serving at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, I love working with the youth in our community. I’ve helped with many TEC retreats in the Lincoln Diocese and volunteer with Junior Achievement. Fortunately, I’m blessed enough that Lincoln Federal is a strong supporter of many local nonprofit organizations and is flexible with its employees so we can volunteer and serve our community.

What is your favorite movie?

Miracle. I love history, sports, and movies based on true stories. Miracle does a great job of incorporating all these of these.
