What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – One of the biggest turning points in life so far professionally has been shifting my career focus and ambition. Previously, once out of college, I thought I wanted to go into the counseling or mental health workforce and eventually achieve higher education for this. After real world experiences and internships, working alongside and shadowing mental health professionals, I decided that this profession would not be a good fit for me in the long run. Finding a profession where I can connect with families/clients, see the impact overtime has a great work life balance and is what I wanted. So far, my position at Sumner Place (sumnerplacecare.com) has been just that! Seeing the positive impact our care facility has given me so much joy, but being more on the business side of it has been a great change from previous positions.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – On my days off, I love to focus on home renovation projects, interior design and getting my creative juices flowing with activities such as scrapbooking and painting! Anytime I can also do these things outside is a win.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Professionally I’ve been told I am quite bubbly and outgoing although in my personal life, I’d say I am more of an introvert; you’ll rarely catch me striking up a conversation with a stranger.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – The best piece of advice I’ve learned has been to live every day as your last and to treat everyone as the most important person!
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I love to think that people can be great at many things in life, especially what we do professionally. I am excited to have an open mind to all opportunities that may arise in the future, and at this time couldn’t fathom what I may be doing professionally in 10 years. Hopefully, whatever it is provides me with great pride and growth while also making an impact to those on a personal level!
What local nonprofi t organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am passionate about The Hub Central Access Point for Young Adult’s local non-profit here in Lincoln that focuses on assisting young adults in crisis. This is a great option for local young adults to get that extra support that some just don’t have at home. Whether it’s job readiness, food or housing insecurity, or even helping those achieve their GED or higher education opportunities, The Hub is an amazing resource for all young adults within the Lincoln community, and the staff truly make a difference!
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – One of my favorite books I’ve read has been Educated by Tara Westover. The memoir details a young woman’s journey through her unique childhood and how she had the courage to eventually live her life on her own terms.
What is your favorite movie? – As a pre-teen I loved reading the Harry Potter and Twilight Saga books and the movies are just as good!
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – I am a big sushi and bubble tea fan and love supporting small local businesses in Lincoln; one of my favorites has been Saru Tea Bar in the Clock Tower Shopping Center.
