Jeanette Steider grew up with flowers as her mom loved them and their yard was a garden full of flowers rather than grass.  Although Jeanette had no idea what she wanted to do in college and studied everything from Art History to Geology, the second year she took two Floral Design classes and she fell in love.  She began working at a flower shop looking for Valentine’s help, which turned into a permanent job, and now sixteen years later she is the manager at Abloom and still loves the business.  Abloom is a local, independently owned business located in the heart of downtown Lincoln.  Their goal is to offer their clients unique and imaginative floral art, creatively designed with the most interesting, beautiful flowers available.  As manager and head designer, Jeanette believes that flowers are the palette with which beautiful works of art can be created.  At our homes or business, Jeanette believes that flowers are small but significant reminders to always appreciate the beauty inherent in the world at large.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
Honestly, balancing my family and my job. I am very hands on at work and like to do too much myself, so that makes it hard to walk away sometimes.

Tell us a little about your family.
I grew up in a large family: I am the second youngest of 12 children, 7 boys and 5 girls, while my husband is the opposite having only one sister. Rob and I have been married for almost 13 years.  We have two handsome, busy boys. Dylan is 9 and Jason is 5 (and a half!)

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I love to do anything outside on warm days, read and just spend time with my boys.

What are you the most proud of?
How close my family is. We try to get together often and just have fun being around each other.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
To raise my boys to be loving, polite, respectful young men, always remembering faith, family and friends.

How would your friends describe you?
People think I am quiet, but to my friends I am probably one of the loudest people they know. I’m very emotional, I love to laugh and I cry easily.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I wouldn’t say it’s a talent but, I love to dance.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to play the piano, guitar and drums…and also sing, I love music!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wish I was more outgoing.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
My favorite book of all time is The Thorn Birds.  The last book I read for myself was Heaven is for Real and then whatever my 5 year old chooses every night.

What is your favorite movie?
The Thomas Crown Affair

What is your favorite TV show?
NCIS, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, The Amazing Race, Seinfeld…

What is your favorite Lincoln restaurant?
There are too many to name…I love variety.

Both of my grandfathers, whom I never knew.
