Meet Julie Day, the client care coordinator at Visiting Angels.

Tell us a little about your business. – Visiting Angels (www.visitingangels.com) provides assistance to clients who want to maintain their independence while enjoying the comforts of their own home. Our relationships with our clients are long lasting due to the care we take in matching them with caregivers and our commitment to ongoing communication. I am a life-long Lincoln resident, and I’m invested my clients’ satisfaction and well-being.

How did you get started in the business? – I was in sales and marketing before staying home with my children for 17 years. When I went back to work 10 years ago, I wanted to do something that was rewarding and people-centered. As luck would have it, a friend of mine worked for a home health company and suggested I look into that. Being a client care coordinator is a perfect fit for me. I get to meet amazing people. I am the first face our clients see when I meet with them to evaluate their needs, and I continue to make recommendations as those needs change.

Tell us a little about your family. – My husband Bo and I have a blended family which consists of seven adult children and four grandchildren. Bo was also born and raised in Lincoln, and our kids all live in Nebraska (for now) so we are deeply rooted here.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Having a family definitely changed my life. I’ve learned a lot from being a parent and still learn from my kids all the time. I managed to raise five good humans, and I feel I have contributed something good to this world.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would love to be an author.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – The Alzheimer’s Association. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s disease and it kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. Alzheimer’s affects an individual but also takes a devastating toll on caregivers and family members.

What is your favorite movie? – I have many. The Godfather, Christmas Vacation, and The Sandlot are a few of my favorites.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Singing. I am a terrible singer, but I sing anyway. My daughter once asked me to please stop singing when she was little.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – There are two that come to mind. One is, “Never miss a good chance to shut up.” – Will Rogers. The second is from my father. He would often remind me to, “Laugh a lot. Never go a day without laughing.”

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – We love to be anywhere there is water. You might also find me reading, getting the riding mower stuck in our yard, riding on the back of our Harley Davidson, or having sleepovers with our grandchildren.
