How did you get started in the business? – I purchased The Groutsmith franchise in 2012. The learning process has been fun. Each job presents a unique challenge, and as we complete more and more jobs our experience is growing.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Time management.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Starting my business has been an incredibly significant professional achievement, and officially made me a Vetrepreneur which is also very important to me.  As a veteran and a business owner, I am a member of the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA).  My business is also listed on, which is an excellent website devoted entirely to veteran-owned businesses.  I proudly promote my 25 years of service in the Army/Nebraska National Guard along with my business.  I served a combat tour in Afghanistan from 2007-2008 mentoring the Afghan National Police.  I also have a BS in Criminal Justice from UNL, which is another accomplishment I take pride in.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have a daughter, Aisha, who is 12 years old.  My parents and two brothers are all in Lincoln as well.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Completing Warrant Officer Candidate School

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – If I had a day off I imagine I would like to relax around the house while cooking or grilling.

What are you the most proud of? – My daughter Aisha. She is absolutely amazing, beautiful and so smart.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Mind reading.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Vocal music talent!

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.

What is your favorite movie? – It is a tie between Stripes and Forrest Gump.
