Meet Deb Maguire, LPN, Director of Health Services at Caring Friends In Home Care (www.caringfriendsinhomecare.com).

Tell us a little about your business. – Caring Friends In Home Care is your trusted choice for exceptional in-home care. We have over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field. We passionately want the very best for our clients and deliver care in their homes – a familiar surrounding to them. Their care will be directed by them and their own individualized choices. We have no minimum requirements for hourly services as we will serve you for as little as one hour a day. We hire local so that our clients can be cared for by caregivers in their own community, which allows us to never charge mileage to the client. Our goal of serving you in the comfort of your home leads to a higher satisfaction with life allowing for dignity, independence and maximum comfort of care.

How did you get started in the business? – I have been in the healthcare field my entire career, which has been more than 45 years. I love the opportunity to be able to serve our clients and know that daily we are making a difference in their lives. I also love getting to hear their life stories.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Most of my career was spent working in a facility, mainly assisted livings. The biggest challenge was having clients with no money and on Medicaid and not being able to serve them because the facility didn’t take that payor source. I totally understand the reasoning behind this, but now doing in-home care and knowing we accept all payor sources means the world to me to be able to help even those who are less fortunate.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am the oldest of three girls. I am so blessed to live in the same town as my entire family. I have the best nieces and nephews and am so thankful that I have gotten to spend as much time with each of them as I can. We are a very close family and I make sure to take them on a vacation every summer. To be able to spend this quality one on one time with them is beyond a blessing. I want to give them as many memories as possible.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – To spend as much time as possible making memories, taking short trips or just being outdoors going swimming, boating and enjoying bonfires.

Who inspires you? – Mother Teresa. Her faith, big heart and dedication to helping those in need is an inspiration how to live our lives with kindness and caring for all.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – The best piece of advice I have ever received came from my dad – he always said no matter what you do in life, always leave people better than you found them. He was 6’8” tall and he was known as the gentle giant… and he would’ve given all he had to help someone else. I aim to be half the person he was.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Grace… I hope those I have had the honor to care for or have touched know that I have treated them with grace.
