Meet Kelsey Meyer, Assistant Director of Sales at Visit Lincoln (lincoln.org).
Tell us a little about your business. – Visit Lincoln is the destination marketing organization for Lincoln and Lancaster County. Our office works to promote the county as a leisure tourism destination as well as a meetings and sporting event destination. We love to showcase all the wonderful businesses, attractions, parks and people that make Lincoln special!
How did you get started in the business? – I worked as an intern for Visit Lincoln during the summer months between my junior and senior years of college. I kept in touch with my manager leading up to graduation and it just worked out that a position opened right before I graduated. I’ve been with the team ever since!
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The COVID pandemic was an extremely challenging period as we are in the business of bringing groups of people together. For about two years, in-person meetings were non-existent!
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Recruiting city-wide events! I love knowing every part of the city will see an impact from a group I helped bring to town.
Tell us a little about your family. – I got married to my loving husband, Hayden, in July of 2017 and we are parents to two rambunctious boys, Myles (5) and Graham (3). My family is my world!
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Becoming a mom gave me a new take on life. I learned to appreciate the simple things more than ever.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love to spend my days recharging. A perfect day would consist of morning coffee outside, exercising, reading and spending quality time with my family. I can be somewhat of a homebody.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I grew up on a farm outside of South Sioux City, Nebraska and rode horses competitively.
Who inspires you? – Where do I start? My children, parents, husband and friends. I am blessed to have many inspirational people in my life.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Kindness always wins.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Authentic
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? – I would love to have a magic wand like Cinderella!
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The last book I read was Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
What is your favorite movie? – “You’re killing me Smalls!” The Sandlot. Influenced by my boys. It’s on repeat in our house.
What is your favorite TV show? – Grey’s Anatomy
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – The Oven
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Jesus!
