Meet Regan Dorcey, Financial Services Specialist at Farmers Union Midwest Agency (nfumemberbenefits.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – Farmers Union Midwest Agency is an organization that is backed by the National Farmers Union. We are an insurance agency that is exclusive to the Farmers Union. We have member benefits we recently rolled out including an accident and critical illness policy, short-term and long-term disability, vision and dental.
How did you get started in the business? – I got started in the insurance industry by the first job I got once I graduated college. It was a marketing representative for an insurance company. From there I transitioned into different roles and found out how much I liked the insurance industry.
Tell us a little about your family. – I have a fiancé, Jared, who is a mechanical engineer. Our wedding is in April. We also have two very mouthy huskies, Ronan and Akikia.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – One of the biggest turning points of my life was choosing to go to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and choosing to stay in Lincoln. My life would have been a lot different if I didn’t stay in Lincoln. Both of my sisters live in Lincoln also, so it was an easy choice!
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – On a day off, my favorite thing to do is going to Pioneer’s Park or Wilderness Park and walk around. I also like to watch my favorite tv show or do home projects.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Most people know that giraffes are my favorite animal. What most people do not know is that I got to know the giraffes at the Lincoln Zoo by their unique markings and can tell them apart. Their names are Mario, Moosey, Joey, Allie, Penny and Pheobe.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Passionate – everything I do I try to do to the fullest of my ability and keep at it until I am satisfied with the results. I care deeply about the things I do am involved in.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I went to college for video production. I am a creative type and love making and designing videos, editing photos or designing art. I don’t use that skill set every day but I use it quite a bit more then you would think in the insurance world.
Which talent would you most like to have? – I would like to be a runner. I have tried to become one multiple times and I am just not one. The good news is that Pilates fills that cardio desire.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – When I was younger, I wanted to go to school for interior design. I have recently found this passion again as my fiancé and I really bought a home. It has been so fun designing what works best for us room by room. In addition to this, we have done some small projects around our home that have been so fun!
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Screamers. The energy there is always so fun and they offer something unique you generally don’t see at restaurants. I love that they have themed nights too.
