After years working building maintenance and construction and studying Electrical Engineering at UNL, Randy King started doing home inspections part time. He enjoyed the work so much that he switched to full time a year later and opened King’s Home Inspections. Randy provides home inspection services for residential buyers and sellers in southeast Nebraska as well as performing radon testing for residential and light commercial buildings.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
Educating people on radon: what it is, why it is important to know if it is in your home, and what to do about it.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
Having a customer satisfaction rating of over 95% for ten years in a row.
Tell us a little about your family.
I have a daughter, Maureen, recently married to Kevin Sadler. They both work at Nelnet. My oldest son drives Armored Truck for Rochester Armored Services in Lincoln. My youngest is a Senior at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, IA, and the varsity goalie on the BCU’s Charger’s Soccer Team. He will graduate in May with a double major in History and Psychology.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
Having a heart attack. Makes you realize you are mortal, that greasy cheeseburgers really are not good for you and that exercise and stress management truly are important.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Ride motorcycles with my kids.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I practice martial arts, and I play a banjo.
What are you the most proud of?
My three kids turning out to be the great people they are.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Moderation in all things…treat others as you wish to be treated.
What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
To help all my kids have successful careers.
How would your friends describe you?
Friendly, outgoing, helpful.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
Music. I love to play stringed instruments.
Which talent would you most like to have?
To be multi-lingual.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
To be in better physical condition and lose weight.
