Matt Talbot Presents 14th Annual “Feeding the Soul of the City” on March 28

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (mtko.org) will honor the 2019 Compassion in Action Award recipients at the Feeding the Soul of the City dinner and fundraising event on March 28 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel. This year’s winners are Paul Mitchell The School Lincoln and CEDARS Youth Services/Street Outreach Program.

Instructors and future professionals from Paul Mitchell The School Lincoln come to Matt Talbot each month to provide free haircuts to the homeless and near homeless. Since starting this service in 2013, they have provided more than 2,000 haircuts! They also participate in Project Homeless Connect each year, providing nearly 200 haircuts in one day at the 2018 event. The stylists are kind and compassionate, and the services they provide go a long way in restoring dignity, confidence, and hope to the homeless and near homeless in our community.

CEDARS, founded over 70 years ago, partners with Matt Talbot in many ways to help families and at-risk children and youth. A CEDARS professional has taught the “Parenting” class in Matt Talbot’s Life Skills curriculum for 15 years, helping hundreds of individuals build parenting skills and develop stronger families. CEDARS staff members come to Matt Talbot on a regular basis to offer assistance to homeless and at-risk youth, are one of five public doors for persons who are homeless, and are committed members of the Lincoln Homeless Coalition Coordinated Entry team.

All are welcome to join Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach in celebrating these wonderful community partners. Feeding the Soul of the City starts at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. The dinner and program will begin at 6:30 p.m. All money raised supports Matt Talbot’s continued outreach and support of the homeless, near homeless, and hungry in Lincoln.
