Thriving families are the foundation of a strong workforce. As Lincoln continues to grow, supporting working parents and expanding access to quality early childhood education remain essential to sustaining our economic prosperity. The Vitality Lincoln Strategic Plan underscores this commitment, recognizing that investing in family well-being and early childhood care is key to developing a diverse and resilient workforce. By ensuring families have the resources they need to succeed, Lincoln is building the framework for long-term economic growth and a more inclusive community where both businesses and families can continue to thrive.

The Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development (LPED) (SelectLincoln.org) and Lincoln Littles (LincolnLittles.org) are advancing that mission with the launch of the Lincoln Family-Friendly Workplaces Certification Program, a new initiative designed to highlight employers who prioritize the well-being of working parents and their families.

This new certification program recognizes businesses that implement family-friendly workplace policies, positioning them to attract and retain a strong and inclusive workforce. From flexible scheduling and paid parental leave to hybrid work options and caregiver support, the Family-Friendly Workplaces Certification celebrates employers who create environments where their employees have the resources they need to build rewarding careers while also effectively caring for their families.

This initiative reflects a growing understanding that family-friendly workplaces are more than just an employee benefit–they are truly a strategic advantage for employers. By ensuring that working parents have the access they need to early childhood care and flexible workplace options, Lincoln’s business community is contributing to a more resilient and competitive workforce. In turn, this elevates Lincoln’s ability to attract and retain top talent and young professionals.

Certified employers will be featured on a public map for job seekers and their families, as well as highlighted on LPED and Lincoln Littles platforms such as social media, website and various events. Each certified business will also receive a decal and digital badge to proudly display their commitment to supporting families in the workplace.

The certification process begins with a free, 15-minute self-assessment, reviewed quarterly by the Lincoln Littles Board of Advisors Engagement Committee. To qualify, companies must meet at least seven of ten key criteria to demonstrate their commitment to building family-friendly workplace practices. Each step of the simple certification process offers practical examples for businesses and organizations striving to strengthen their policies in an effort to better support their teams.

Supporting working parents is not just good for families, it is a smart investment in Lincoln’s economic vitality. Together, we are building a stronger business community that is defined by growth, inclusivity and opportunities for ongoing success.
