New Year’s Resolutions in Lincoln, NE – 2019

New Year’s resolutions are great because they encourage people to set goals for themselves, but they are also dangerous because they set a lot of people up to be discouraged when they don’t hit their goal as successfully as they wanted. Setting a New Year’s resolution only works if you are willing to be patient with yourself and the process. There are a variety of directions you can go with your personal goal for 2019. If you haven’t pinpointed what yours is yet, here are a few ideas.

FEEL GOOD, LOOK GOOD

Nancy Hopkins
Physicians WEIGHT LOSS Centers

A popular resolution is weight loss, but it should be about more than that. It’s about feeling good and being healthy, not just looking good. “Not every person loses weight at the same rate,” Nancy Hopkins with Physicians WEIGHT LOSS Centers reminds us. “That’s why Physicians WEIGHT LOSS Centers (PWLC) in Lincoln has developed distinct and effective weight loss systems to meet different lifestyle needs. One approach we take with our clients is medically supervised weight loss. Through any of their six specially designed weight loss and nutrition systems, you’ll start losing pounds and inches right away. Each diet is nutritionally designed by PWLC’s licensed dietitian to help you get the proper amount of protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs specific to each diet system.

Another approach is LipoGenics, which is a revolutionary new method for eliminating unwanted fat stores from the body. Ideally, the human body would metabolize the majority of the calories it consumes throughout the day, storing a minimal amount of fat for times of scarcity. Unfortunately, our modern lifestyles have become more sedentary, which means many of us consume more calories than we need. This results in excess, and undesirable fat stores. LipoGenics is a completely noninvasive, pain-free method for stimulating the body’s metabolic process.”

At PWLC, time is taken to teach good eating habits that will last a lifetime. Clients learn how to make wise nutritional choices that will help make an easy transition from the weight loss program into everyday eating in order to help keep off excess pounds and inches.

Another healthy practice to adopt this year is seeing a chiropractor; but not just any chiropractor, one that is using an up-to-date, functional, scientific, neurologically-based model of chiropractic technique, such as Drs. Ashley and Troy Hayes at Express Life Chiropractic. They are utilizing state-of-the-art technology on their patients to assess the nervous system to see the underlying issues and track objectively to make sure that things are always improving.

Express Life Chiropractic will address your health at its core: the nervous system. Literally every body part is controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and nerves; therefore, directly affecting the nervous system helps to find the root cause of health concerns and find relief.

The best gift you can give yourself this year is a healthy YOU!

JOIN A GYM

If you’ve tried and failed all the weight loss gimmicks, fad diets, and pills out there, and are looking for a better way to lose weight and get the body you’ve always wanted in 2019, then Capital City Fitness & Performance could be your answer! They are the only Training for Warriors (TFW) affiliate in Lincoln. What separates the TFW system from other training programs is its culture. Although TFW encompasses signature warm-ups, speed training, strength training, endurance training, flexibility work, and nutrition, the most important component of the system is its motivational approach and family environment. With Capital City, you will be challenged to “bring out the warrior within” this year.

If you’re someone who has a busy schedule and doesn’t have a lot of time to dedicate to exercising, a gym like 9Round Fitness might be the best fit.

Trevor Vettel
9Round Fitness

“You’ve probably heard that it’s recommended to do at least 30 minutes for physical activity every day,” comments Trevor Vettel with 9Round Fitness at the north Lincoln location off of 84th and Adams. “Well, that is exactly what our fitness regime is all about at 9Round. We facilitate a fun 30-minute, full-body kickboxing-themed workout. We also always have a trainer on the floor to direct you through the workout so there is no guesswork, and we offer nutritional guidance to create a more balanced healthy lifestyle.

A lot of the time the hardest thing to do is walk through the door of 9Round, or any gym for that matter. Getting through the door and meeting with a trainer is the first step, which is the most important step to starting a healthy lifestyle and making 2019 the year you become the best version of yourself!”

Jeff Madsen
Right Foot Forward Fitness

Another gym option is Right Foot Forward Fitness, Lincoln’s premiere boot camp, small group, and personal training practice focused on helping you get fit and lose weight. “We don’t just focus on cardio because we know you want to tone up,” explains Jeff Madsen with Right Foot Forward Fitness. “Similarly, we don’t focus on just weights because we know you don’t want to get bulky. Instead, we marry the two into a 60% cardio, 40% strength split. This allows us to help you lose weight and tone up. Not only that, the workout structure changes every workout from kettlebell training to circuit training to HIIT to Tabata. This is exactly the change that keeps people excited to come back every day!

Of course, while getting in shape through routine exercise is a common goal, it can be a daunting one. Finding motivation can be difficult, and even harder to maintain. Luckily, Ann Ringlein with Lincoln Running Company shared some exciting news to help with this.

“You see, we’ve taken a lot of the challenge out of the challenge!” Exclaims Ann. “We have given you a goal, running buddies, and incentives, and we know from there you will take it and run! Sign up for the challenge by contacting the Lincoln Running Company.”

COMPLETE A HOME PROJECT

Mary McCombs
Essentials

Is there a project around the house you’ve been meaning to tackle? Mary McCombs with Essentials offers the following advice: “Something that many people tend to overlook is preventive maintenance of their homes. You might have promised to lose weight, quit smoking, or travel to new places, but what about your home—the place where you spend most of your time? From its attics to its crawl spaces, your home is under constant attack from the stress of daily life. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way in home repairs; what would seem like a minor problem can quickly grow into a time-consuming nightmare for a homeowner. This year, make the decision to never worry about your home again! Let Essentials take care of your home so you can meet your other New Year’s resolutions of spending time with the family, reducing stress, and traveling to new places.”

In terms of organization, if you have a lot of clutter in your house or garage, consider making is your resolution to sort through it all and get everything organized. Being clean and maximizing your space is attainable…especially with Levrack!

Ryan Stauffer
Levrack

“We love organization,” says Ryan Stauffer with Levrack. “Unfortunately, the average American garage has become a collect-all for all of the stuff that doesn’t fit inside the house. That’s where Levrack comes in. Levrack is a ‘mobile aisle’ storage solution that includes hanging shelves turned inward, essentially doubling your shelving space in any given area while hiding your stuff at the same time. Whether it’s Christmas decorations or recreational equipment, Levrack is full of opportunities to revolutionize your storage situation.”

GET FINANCIALLY SECURE

Bethany Arnold with Edward Jones shared advice on some financial New Year’s resolutions that will help you become a better investor in 2019 and beyond:

Boost contributions to your employer-sponsored retirement plan Contribution limits will be increasing for many employer-sponsored retirement plans. For 2019, you can contribute up to $19,000 if you’re 50 or older to your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan. It’s usually a good idea to contribute as much as you can afford to your employer’s plan, as your contributions may lower your taxable income, while any earnings growth is tax-deferred.

Try to “max out” on your IRA. Even if you have a 401(k) or similar plan, you can probably still invest in an IRA. For 2019, you can put in up to $6,000 in a traditional or Roth IRA if you’re 50 or older.

Build an emergency fund. Try to build an emergency fund containing three to six months’ worth of living expenses, with the money held in a low-risk, liquid account. This fund can help you avoid dipping in to your long-term investments to pay for unexpected costs, such as a major car repair.

Control your debts. Do what you can to keep your debts under control. Ultimately, the less you have to spend on debt payments, the more you can invest for your future.

No matter what your resolutions are for this year, don’t give up! Even if you fail here and there, keep going. There are plenty of experts in the Lincoln community that can help you get from where you’re at now to where you want to be. Reaching your goals will take perseverance, but the results will be well worth the time and effort.
