On April 26, Black Hills Energy (blackhillsenergy.com/ngv) invited employees of Uribe Refuse Services, along with representatives from Uribe’s companies—RecycleLink, Waste to Energy Lincoln, and A1st Rate Services—to join them for a joint ribbon-cutting held in conjunction with the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. The event celebrated Black Hills Energy’s beautiful new building at 1731 Windhoek Dr. and the debut of Uribe’s new natural gas refuse truck.

Black Hills Energy assisted Uribe in the purchase of a third Compressed Natural Gas refuse truck. This truck will help the city achieve Climate Action Plan goals and is an important part of reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector, which was included as an item in the City’s environmental action plan that passed last year. Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV) are 90% cleaner than the EPA’s current NOx standard and emit up to 21% fewer GHG emissions than comparable gas and diesel vehicles. When fueling with Renewable Natural Gas produced here in the city of Lincoln at the Waste Water Recovery Center, GHG emissions can be reduced up to 382%.

“Converting heavy duty vehicles to natural gas is a key strategy to reducing emissions from the transportation sector,” said Kevin Jarosz, vice president of operations for Black Hills Energy. “Black Hills Energy is committed to sustainability and this is just one more way we can assist the City of Lincoln achieve the goals outlined by the Climate Action Plan passed last year.”
