Community Action Seeks Local Contractors

Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties (www.communityactionatwork.org/help/contracting.html) is seeking independent contractors that are interested in helping the community by improving low-income housing stock. These contractors will complete fulfilling work alongside a dedicated team of professionals serving Saunders and Rural Lancaster Counties’ most vulnerable residents.

Thanks to a $750,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, and a $10,000 contribution by Horizon Bank, Community Action’s Weatherization Program is expanding. This means Community Action needs more help than ever from local contractors! Last year, 51% of those who applied to receive weatherization services through Community Action were deferred, meaning their homes did not pass inspection due to a disqualifying factor (e.g. mold, asbestos, structural difficulties, etc.). This grant will change that.

Contractors interested in working with Community Action will become part of the agency’s bid pool and have the opportunity to bid on jobs year-round, as often as they’d like – always at pre-screened households. Community Action is specifically looking for contractors with the following expertise: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, handypersons, foundation repair, insulation installation, and remodel and renovation. However, contractors of all types are encouraged to inquire!

Community Action’s Weatherization Program provides services to increase homes’ energy efficiency, and therefore decrease those homes’ utility burdens. A decrease in utility burdens means an increase in financial well-being, which directly reflects Community Action’s mission to empower people living in poverty to reach economic stability.
