From Nebraska Gift Shop Adds Fresh Local Beef from Upstream Farms to Retail Offerings

After the expansion of the From Nebraska Gift Shop in the Haymarket (www.fromne.com), Lincoln’s largest store carrying Nebraska-grown/made products, the search began for a local beef producer. This led to a new partnership with Upstream Farms, founded by twin brothers Matthew and Joseph Brugger from Albion, allowing From Nebraska to add fresh local beef to their retail offerings.

Matthew and Joseph are putting new ideas on old dirt and connecting their customers back to their farm one meal at a time. While getting their undergraduate degrees at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, they launched Upstream Farms. It runs in tandem with the four-generation family farm they grew up on. Now headed into its fourth year of operation, Upstream Farms sells high quality Angus beef, Berkshire pork, and home-grown honey directly to consumers across the country through their own online platform and their retail space in the From Nebraska Gift Store. Upstream Farms’ most recent venture includes the addition of an on farm distillery that turns the grains they raise into high quality bourbon whiskey. Their goal is to turn commodities into consumables and sell everything they raise directly to a consumer in one form or another.

At From Nebraska, there are a variety of beef cuts available—everything from ribeyes and New York strips to short ribs and back ribs. Upstream Farms beef is all natural—no antibiotics, hormones, or implants. Everything the angus eat has been grown by the Bruggers. Their beef is also dry aged for 28 days at a local processor before packaging, which allows the natural enzymes to break it down, making it even more tender and palatable.
