Lincoln Arts Council (artscene.org) announced that the annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, renamed this year to the Lincoln Arts Awards, will be held on the evening of Wednesday, August 27, at the Country Club of Lincoln, located at 3200 S 24th St. The event is open to the public and includes a reception with an artistic hors d’oeuvres buffet at 6 p.m., followed by the awards presentation at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “Rising.” Rising represents both the rebirth that the arts allow and promise, and the return of the Arts Council to provide enriching arts programming across the city. Robert Goldberg, Executive Director of the Lincoln Arts Council, emphasized the role of art in a thriving community and the poignancy of the “Rising” theme: “The Lincoln Arts Awards this year celebrate the power of the arts to inspire and to give purpose. Beethoven wrote into his final String Quartet the words ‘Must it be? It must be.’”
