Kassie Thompson’s small business journey began in 2013 in her hometown of Columbus, where she started creating hand-painted chalkboards and small crafts while working full time. Today, she brings her unique assortment of laser-etched wood products to the Pop-Up Shop at Union Bank Place.

After moving to Lincoln in 2019 with her fiancé, Wilber, and their two sons, Eli and Diego, Kassie purchased her first laser machine and began expanding her craft through local shows and events. Four years later, what started as a creative hobby has grown into a thriving full-time business—KT Designs (ktdesigns15.com)—offering custom, laser-etched wood pieces such as home décor, Husker-licensed signs, pet portraits, and ornaments.

Currently featured at the Pop-Up Shop at Union Bank Place through December, Kassie is also preparing to open her first brick-and-mortar location at Gateway Mall in March 2026. Balancing business ownership and family life, she says running her own company allows her the freedom to pursue her creative passion while still being present for her sons.

Visitors this fall can find Husker-themed items celebrating the University’s volleyball and football teams, along with fall-inspired home décor. Those stopping by later in the season will discover her festive holiday designs—so be sure to visit more than once to see the full collection.
