Leadership Lincoln’s (leadershiplincoln.org) 41st year is off and rolling. Each year, the organization hosts three groups of Lincoln residents for a series of events, fellowships and exploratory sessions designed to help participants plug into Lincoln and Lancaster County.
High school juniors from every school in Lancaster County are nominated by principals and counselors to take part in a retreat and monthly meetings. Their retreat was held in late August, and throughout the year they will learn about their hometown, what makes it work and how they can grow into the leaders of tomorrow.
Young professionals, nominated by their organizations and businesses, began their year of Leadership Lincoln in early September with a get-acquainted dinner. Held September 2 at the rooftop meeting space at Olsson Engineering in downtown Lincoln, the event welcomed members of the Flagship Class as Executive Director Mike Hale outlined the programs they will participate in. Over the coming months, the class will focus on government at the city, county and state levels, community health, education, and the arts and cultural scene.
A third group brings together new executives to the community and individuals recently promoted into leadership roles. Meeting monthly, they will also explore topics including human services and public safety.
“As I’ve reflected on what we’ve done to help the city, I’m amazed and very pleased with a long list of accomplishments,” Hale said. “We give people the opportunity to connect outside their day-to-day routine, gain a deeper understanding of what makes this city tick and meet leaders of Lincoln’s businesses, nonprofits, government and more.”
