Lied Center for Performing Arts Ranks in Top 100 Worldwide Theatre Venues

Pollstar Magazine’s 2018 Year End Report announced the rankings of the top venues in the world based on annual ticket sales. Among the world’s Top 100 Theatre Venues, the Lied Center for Performing Arts (LiedCenter.org) is ranked at #85 based on tickets sold between November 23, 2017 and November 21, 2018.

“This past year was one of the greatest seasons in our history with Misty Copeland performing in American Ballet Theater’s Firebird, Broadway’s Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Color Purple, Audra McDonald, Snarky Puppy and the Mariinsky Orchestra,” said Lied Center of Performing Arts Executive Director Bill Stephan. “The Lied Center commissioned works and hosted world premieres by Philip Glass and Danny Elfman. The growth of the Lied Center’s attendance is due to the exceptionally talented artists performing on our stage, and the generous support of the people of Nebraska who make these performances possible.”

The Book of Mormon’s record-breaking attendance of 15,000 in December of 2018 is not included in the 2018 Pollstar ranking. The strong attendance at Book of Mormon was a great success for our city and demonstrates that the greater Lincoln area is a strong, independent market for Broadway’s top shows.

Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena was also recognized as #119 among Pollstar’s Top 200 Arena Venues based on tickets sold during the same time period.

The Lied Center for Performing Arts is “Nebraska’s Home for the Arts.” As part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Lied presents the world’s most iconic artists and offers major regional, national, and international performances designed to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences.
