Lincoln Airport Authority Reducing On-Site Staff to Preserve Safety, Public Health

To keep the public and its staff as safe as possible while remaining operational during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lincoln Airport Authority’s Board of Directors voted last week to shift to essential-only, remote-access staffing. Effective April 2, all administrative offices will be closed until further notice.

“This pandemic has affected a wide array of industries in our community, and obviously the travel industry is among them,” said David Haring, executive director of the Lincoln Airport Authority. “Like the other businesses in our community that have been hit hard, we’re doing our part to help ensure the safety of travelers and our staff while continuing to operate during this crisis. We’re all in this together.”

As the coronavirus has spread, airports are staying open as essential infrastructure. Switching to a modified staffing model—keeping only the necessary employees on site and allowing those able to complete their jobs remotely to work from home—makes sure the Lincoln Airport maintains operational readiness and its vital role in safe, secure transportation. Withdrawing employees that can complete their jobs from home creates a safer environment for travelers and employees who must remain on site.

The Lincoln Airport is already running in a limited capacity with fewer flights. Currently, only two flights per day to and from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Denver International Airport (DIA) and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) are connecting to LNK.

The Lincoln Airport Authority operates all air traffic control, safety, security, ground crew, and retail aspects of the airport in Nebraska’s capital city. Travelers can find the latest updates on flight schedules and information on parking, airport services and the LNK vs. OMA cost comparison tool at LincolnAirport.com. Individuals who need to attend to business or speak with any members of the airport administrative team should call (402) 458-2400 and leave a message with the appropriate party for a follow-up.
