West Gate Bank Opens New In-School Branch at Wysong Elementary School

On a quest to improve financial literacy using real world experience, West Gate Bank (westgate.bank) partnered with the UNL Center for Economic Education to open an in-school bank branch in Wysong Elementary School. To officially mark the opening of the student branch, a ribbon-cutting celebration was held on November 22 in conjunction with the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.

This savings-only, in-school bank branch will enhance a saving culture and promote themes of economics to all the students. It is designed to introduce these concepts of savings early and reinforce it throughout the elementary curriculum, demonstrate that savings should be a part of any finance plan, and increase parental involvement through savings and banking activity. The bank is staffed by West Gate’s friendliest bankers weekly.

Nebraska’s quest to improve financial literacy began in 2002 with a single Omaha school. Now, over 20 schools are participating with banks to give real world banking experience to their students. Wysong is the second school West Gate Bank has committed to serving.

West Gate Bank believes that their success is built on the communities that they serve. To learn more, go to westgate.bank.
