American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Seeks Donors to Help Fight Childhood Cancers

The American Cancer Society (relayforlife.org/lancasterCoNE) is making a difference in the fight against childhood cancers, and they have extended this year’s virtual Relay For Life through October to raise money that can help improve outcomes for children with cancer. Cancer is the leading disease-related cause of death for children and adolescents ages 1-19 in the U.S., and it is estimated that, in 2020, more than 16,000 children are expected to be newly diagnosed with cancer before they turn 20.

Cancer doesn’t stop, and neither does the American Cancer Society. With community support, they can change the odds and fight back. As of March 2020, The American Cancer Society invests in more than 60 multi-year research grants for a total of $34 million specific to battling childhood cancer and supporting families of children fighting cancer. Through research, information, support, and efforts to improve access to quality care, the American Cancer Society and its advocacy affiliate, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), are working to make sure children with cancer not only survive but thrive.

The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life provides the opportunity for the community to throw its support behind the nonprofit’s efforts. Relay For Life events allow communities to come together to remember those we’ve lost and to help those affected by cancer head on anytime of the year.
