Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands (BBBSM) (bbbsmidlands.org) has launched its “60 Men in 60 Days” campaign, an urgent push to recruit 60 male mentors by October 30. The effort comes in response to a growing waitlist of boys in their service area, some waiting over a year and a half for a Big Brother.
Currently, over 70% of youth waiting for a mentor are boys, with an average wait time of six months. BBBSM is calling on men from all backgrounds to step up and become a consistent, positive presence in a young person’s life.
“Our one-to-one matches don’t just change lives; they create lasting impact for youth and their families,” says Nichole Turgeon, CEO of BBBSM. “We’re not just matchmakers. We’re your biggest supporters, offering training, supervision, and guidance every step of the way.”
The campaign focuses on BBBSM’s Community-Based Mentoring (CBM) program, which pairs trained adult mentors with youth aged 7–14. Mentors meet with their Little twice a month in the community for meaningful, fun activities. Each match is backed by a dedicated Match Support Specialist.
Mentors are currently being accepted from Lancaster, Douglas, Seward, Sarpy, Cass, Saunders, Washington, Pottawattamie, and Mills counties.
