Center for People in Need Installs Coolers in Warehouse to Store Food for Distribution

With the help of several generous donors, the Center for People in Need (cfpin.org) installed two large coolers in its warehouse this winter. The coolers will allow the Center to store refrigerated and frozen goods between distributions, reducing waste and opening the potential for a wider variety of foods to be offered. Longer safe food storage times will also allow the Center to change or add distributions according to the needs of the community.

The Wells Fargo Foundation, Nebraska Presbyterian Foundation, Cindy and Dana Rose with Culvers of Lincoln, Ameritas, Mary LaGrange, Norland International, and Mick McConkey directly contributed to the campaign. The project could not have been completed without the support of John Hendricks, Ready Mixed Concrete, and Sysco.

Each cooler is 6,364 cubic feet and can store approximately 222,000 pounds of food. Together, they took about a month to install, including the concrete work necessary to prepare the Center’s warehouse floor.

The Center for People in Need is a community-based nonprofit that offers services and training to low-income people to satisfy their basic needs and help them achieve economic independence. They help members of the community obtain adequate food and household necessities, like diapers, through weekly distributions. Any Lincoln resident who needs help can apply for assistance. Complete details on the process and a list of required documentation can be found online at cfpin.org or by calling (402) 476-4357.
