The Community Health Endowment (CHE) has awarded funding through its Community Health Ideas Challenge, a new initiative designed to support innovative, community driven ideas that improve health and well being in Lincoln. Following an accessible and thorough review process, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach was selected as the winner and awarded a $20,000 grant. The Clyde Malone Community Center was named runner-up and awarded a $14,000 grant.

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach was recognized for its proposal to install refrigerated smart lockers that expand access to fresh, nutritious food beyond traditional pantry hours. The model would allow individuals to order and pick up food at convenient times, helping reduce barriers related to work schedules, transportation and stigma.

The Clyde Malone Community Center was selected for its proposal to expand its “One Stop Cancer Shop,” bringing preventative health screenings, education and patient navigation services directly into a trusted neighborhood setting. The concept responds to health disparities in Lincoln, where life expectancy can vary by as much as 10 years between neighborhoods.

The Community Health Ideas Challenge was created to encourage bold, practical solutions that address barriers to health and improve access to care, food, and support services across the community.
