Free Bird Walks Offered at Audubon’s Spring Creek Prairie

The Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center (springcreek.audubon.org) is offering free bird walks the third Tuesday of each month until October. The walks will occur from 8 to 10 a.m. and are completely free to all participants. It is recommended that participants have water, comfortable clothing, durable shoes, and binoculars, if possible (extras can be made available if needed).

This is the third year Spring Creek Prairie is offering free bird walks. This year, they will be led by two bird experts from Audubon, Kevin Poague and Jason “The Birdnerd” St. Sauver.

“It’s a great way to enjoy birds throughout the year on the prairie,” Jason explains, “from local Nebraska resident birds to tallgrass prairie specialties breeding in the summer like Bobolink and Henslow’s Sparrows.”

According to Jason, visitors can expect to get their toes a little get wet. It is a leisurely stroll with there is so much more to experience than just birds—hear their songs, smell the prairie wildflowers, investigate the tall grass insects, and many other encounters with nature can happen on these walks.
