Fresh Start (FreshStartHome.org), a residential home for women transitioning from homelessness seeks additional donations in order to fund a remodel of their building at 6433 Havelock Ave. A capital campaign which began quietly in 2020 has raised nearly $1,339,000 of its $1.5 million goal. Funds raised so far include $274,350 in ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding as well as donations from individuals, companies and foundations.

In addition to repairs to address wear-and-tear and safety of the building, the remodel will turn underutilized spaces into computer areas for filling out applications and researching resources. Additional spaces of respite will be created in the loft, the outside courtyard will be refreshed for greater usability and the large kitchen will receive upgrades.

“The positive environment inside the walls of Fresh Start has improved situations, reunited families and even saved lives,” said Michael Reinmiller, Board Chair and member of the Capital Campaign Committee. “Gifts of all sizes will help make these spaces better suited for women in our community to continue to change their lives for the better.” Fresh Start needs your help in raising the remaining 11% of the campaign goal.

Services are offered to women 19 years and older who are homeless for any reason. The target population is women without children or without minor children in their custody, because there is a gap in services for this population who often wait longer to receive aid. Fresh Start has a constant waitlist for services.

Fresh Start empowers women experiencing homelessness to change their lives by recognizing and using their strengths to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. Fresh Start is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Learn more at FreshStartHome.org.
