Fresh Start Holds Holiday Party for Residents, All Women Get Adopted to Receive Presents

Fresh Start (freshstarthome.org) organized a holiday party on December 17 for the 14 women in their residential housing and goals program, in addition to the six women receiving community support through the organization. In true Christmas miracle fashion, every single one of these women plus their children—for a total of 29—were adopted as a part of Fresh Start’s Adopt a Resident Program, ensuring they got to experience the magic of opening a gift on Christmas. Generosity from community members and businesses poured out in a big way. Gift baskets were made up of donations from Nebraska Pork Producers, Omaha Steaks, Elevate Church–Lincoln, First-Plymouth Church, Food is Love Omaha, Random Acts of Kindness Groups, Quilters Guild and many individuals. In addition, individual donors surprised Fresh Start residents with $100 VISA and Target gift cards. The women at Fresh Start were in tears, remarking that they never received this type of love and support in their own homes.

The party also incorporated a white elephant exchange among the residents, a fun game that allowed them to share Christmas stories and traditions, and a lot of delicious food. It was a blessed time together as a Fresh Start family.
