Fresh Start to Hold Annual Spring Open House March 26

Fresh Start (FreshStartHome.org) will be hosting their spring open house on Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 6433 Havelock Ave. The board of directors invites the community to stop by for tours of the shelter, to enjoy appetizers, socialize, and learn more about the services offered by Fresh Start. The Daisy Thrift Shop will be open as well. All purchases at The Daisy go towards helping women in need.

Since its inception, Fresh Start has given a new beginning to 1,700 women who were striving to live a better life. In 2019, Fresh Start helped 79 women, served 21,588 meals and provided 7,196 nights of lodging. With Fresh Start, women 19 years and older who are experiencing homelessness, for any reason, have the opportunity to live in a safe, supportive environment for up to a year, affording them more time to focus on their long-term goals, address barriers to self-sustainability, and enact lasting change in their lives. The top challenges residents faced in 2019 were substance abuse (94%), mental health (69%), and domestic violence (43%).

Fresh Start’s mission is to empower women experiencing homelessness to overcome barriers to economic stability by recognizing and utilizing their strengths. Fresh Start is more than a shelter, it’s a goal-oriented program designed to support women who are working diligently to improve their lives.
