Lincoln Sunrise Kiwanis Sponsors Kids in Community Action Head Start Program

This January, members of Lincoln Sunrise Kiwanis visited Community Action’s K Street Head Start Center to introduce themselves to some extra-important kiddos: The Energetic Eagles. Lincoln Sunrise Kiwanis has sponsored the Eagles, a baby/toddler classroom within the center, for the 2018–19 school year. Sponsorship dollars will support provision of high-quality services provided within Community Action Head Start (www.communityactionatwork.org) and ensure the Eagles have everything they need to reach their potential!

Perhaps the most special moment from the visit came when a bright-eyed toddler presented a hand-made art project to one of the members. The Eagles had worked together to craft a very special thank you for Sunrise Kiwanis’ generous gift of classroom sponsorship.

Community Action’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs are comprehensive, dual-generation, early childhood education programs that provide kindergarten readiness and family wellbeing support to 421 children and families in Lancaster and Saunders Counties. Children served are among some of the community’s most vulnerable—all live below 100% of the federal poverty level or are in foster care, homeless, or have a disability.

By responding to a demonstrated community need for high-quality early childhood education services, Community Action Head Start ensures that all children are given the opportunity to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. The program relies on community support to ensure capacity to meet the unique learning needs of these children: support such as was given by Lincoln Sunrise Kiwanis.

Lincoln Sunrise Kiwanis is one of 15 generous entities that have supported Community Action Head Start through classroom sponsorship this year. However, seven baby/toddler classrooms remain unsponsored for the 2018-19 school year. You can help! Individuals, businesses, clubs, and groups of all kinds are all invited to support. Sponsorship of a baby/toddler classroom for the year is $2,500. To commemorate your generosity, a plaque recognizing you will be placed outside of the classroom of your choosing.
