Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach has been named a finalist in the Community Health Endowment’s (CHE) Community Health Ideas Challenge, a competitive initiative recognizing innovative solutions to improve community health. The organization was selected for its forward-thinking concept to expand access to nutritious food in Lincoln through secure, refrigerated pantry lockers placed in underserved areas, allowing guests to order online and pick up food on their own time.
“Access, dignity and flexibility—this is how we remove barriers and support healthier lives,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director of Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach.
For more than 30 years, the organization has been a trusted resource in Lincoln, providing daily meals, outreach services and critical support for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty. Their mission is to relieve hunger, overcome homelessness, address addiction and provide outreach and advocacy, which are drivers of health and well-being.
In Lancaster County, 1 in 10 residents experience food insecurity, a challenge that can lead to increased stress, chronic health issues and barriers to stability. Through its programs and partnerships, Matt Talbot works alongside over 3,300 guests per year to reduce these barriers.
As a finalist, Matt Talbot is helping lead the way in developing practical, community-based solutions that improve health outcomes. The pantry locker model is just one example of the organization’s ongoing commitment to innovation, continually adapting its services to better meet the needs of guests with dignity, flexibility and care.
