Nebraska Diaper Bank (NDB) has partnered with Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties (Community Action) to integrate diaper distribution into their home-based Head Start program, expanding access to essential resources for local families.
With 1 in 3 Nebraskan families struggling to afford enough diapers, this partnership places a critical need directly into the hands of Community Action family educators. During in-home visits, educators now distribute diapers to families already enrolled in the program, eliminating the need for parents to seek out additional support and ensuring help is delivered through trusted relationships.
Family educators work one-on-one with families, and with diapers on hand, can now meet immediate needs in real time. This approach not only provides a basic necessity but also supports early childhood development by reducing household stress and helping babies stay clean, healthy, and ready to learn.
“Diaper need is often an unseen barrier for families,” said Tegan Reed, NDB Executive Director. “By equipping family educators with diapers, we’re able to reach families right where they are and remove a significant stressor during those first few critical years.”
In 2025, NDB distributed more than 470,000 diapers in Lincoln and over 3.6 million statewide. The organization now partners with two agencies in Lincoln and supports approximately 580 babies each month.
Each child receives 60 to 80 diapers per month, helping them stay clean, dry, and healthy through age three.
