TeamMates Recognizes Nelnet for Donating Staff Services as Mentors for 10 Years Plus

TeamMates Mentoring of Lincoln (LincolnTeamMates.org) is recognizing Nelnet, Inc. for donating staff volunteer resources to serve as mentors for students in the area for more than a decade, including providing paid time to more than 60 employees to serve as mentors during the last three years alone. The student-loan service staff are completing another rewarding school year, during which 33 NelNet team members have mentored young people across 16 public and parochial schools in Lincoln each week.

“Our whole company knows that TeamMates is fully supported, which makes it easy to work out with your leader how you can fit weekly mentoring into your schedule,” said Kim Harrison, a Nelnet employee and seven-year TeamMates mentor.

Nelnet also is one of three generous sponsors of the Learn to Dream Scholarship along with Acklie Charitable Foundation and Union Bank & Trust. “Learn to Dream” is a college scholarship program for youth who qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch, giving them the opportunity to complete up to 60 semester credit hours at Southeast Community College without paying tuition and fees. Like Lincoln TeamMates, the co-sponsors know that a college education improves a young person’s chances at having a promising career and fulfilling life.

“Nelnet is a model for other organizations that may not realize the kind of difference they can make in their community and in their employees’ lives by championing mentoring,” says TeamMates staff member Christine Davis. “Nelnet is a true advocate of mentoring and it shows in the investment they make in youth, sharing not only their financial resources but the time and dedication of their valued associates.”
