Vision Maker Media (VMM) (visionmakermedia.org) is hosting a year-long film festival in 2026 to celebrate 50 years of being the premier source of media by and about Native Americans. The theme, “Everything is Connected,” represents the interwoven relationships between land, sky, environment and person as a co-existing balanced whole.
February’s installment takes place on Feb. 9 at The Ross Theater, featuring “Oyate Woyaka,” which tells the story of Lakota language history, loss and revitalization. Following the film, Kevin Abourezk will moderate a panel discussion with guest Duane Hollow Horn Bear examining language as the basis of culture. The film and panel discussion will also be available online in March on VMM’s website.

VMM has partnered with Healing Ribbons, an Omaha non-profit organization, to screen selected films from Vision Maker Media’s archives. Films will be shown every other month, starting on February 18th at 5017 Leavenworth St # 101 in Omaha.

February episodes for VMM’s iNative Shorts for Kids YouTube channel will center on the theme “Taking Independent Action,” reflecting the idea that people are the agents of change in history. February’s episodes highlight the role Indigenous people have played, and continue to play, as actors and decision-makers in their own histories.
