The White Cane Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting students with essential items and consistent care, announced its new name: Fitting Futures (fittingfutures.org).

The rebrand reflects the organization’s commitment to helping students become their best selves—emotionally, physically and socially—by providing basic needs such as new clothing and hygiene items. While the old name conveyed care, it sometimes caused confusion among donors and the public.

“We realized that many people didn’t understand what we do based on our old name,” said Kelly Lauer, executive director and co-founder with her husband, Dave. “Some assumed we served older adults or individuals with vision loss. Our new name gives a clearer picture of our mission: helping students thrive by meeting their most basic needs with compassion and dignity.”

Since 2019, the foundation has served thousands of Lincoln students in 18 Title I schools, partnering with Community Learning Center Elementary Schools. Students receive “bundles of joy,” which refers to packages of clothing and hygiene items.

“The magic happens after they come out of the fitting tent and look in the mirror,” Lauer said. “It’s not just the clothes; it’s how they feel in them. That confidence sticks.”

The foundation served 165 students in its first year. In 2024-25, it served 2,510 students, including 395 in April alone. Started in the Lauer home, the organization now has over 100 volunteers who help organize, stock, drive trucks and meet with students.

With its new identity, Fitting Futures aims to expand its reach, enhance donor engagement and deepen its community impact. The name change is effective immediately and will be reflected in all communications, branding and outreach.
