The School Community Intervention & Prevention (SCIP) (scipnebraska.com) program has announced the hiring of Sarah Roehl. Sarah will serve as the school coordinator for Lincoln/Lancaster County schools.
Sarah received her Bachelor of Science in child, youth and family studies with a minor in psychology and her secondary teaching certificate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her Master of Education in School Counseling from Doane University.
Before joining SCIP, Sarah worked in education for 13 years, first as a family and consumer sciences teacher, then as a middle school counselor with Lincoln Public Schools. In her position with SCIP, she will work with existing public and private schools who have implemented SCIP, as well as recruit additional schools and agencies.
She joins Tessah Fulk, school coordinator for Regions 1, 2 and 6 and Chris Ivory, school coordinator for Regions 3, 4 and rural Region 5.
SCIP is a program designed to bring together families, schools and the community to support student behavioral and emotional health. SCIP’s mission is to provide effective prevention education for schools, families and communities, equipping schools with early intervention tools for students with behavioral health concerns so they may achieve healthy and productive lives.
SCIP receives funding from the Strategic Prevention Framework–Partnerships for Success States grant (16%, or $50,000; 5H79SP083671-02), and the Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Services Block Grant (55%, or $168,837.71; 1B08TI088119-01) through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, contracted via the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health.
SCIP also receives 3% ($10,000) in state funding and 26% ($82,110) of funding from nongovernmental sources, including United Way of Lincoln Lancaster County.
