MōMō Pizzeria & Ristorante recently opened its doors for business in south Lincoln, providing an elevated dining experience full of unique and innovative qualities that are a welcome addition to our local dining scene. The first thing you notice upon entering the restaurant is the simple, fresh ambiance created by the modern palette of Milan-inspired warm neutrals and natural design elements. The dining room is a rare blend of open space and easy intimacy, and the mix of natural and mood lighting contributes to the relaxed yet refined vibe of the restaurant. One of the best design features is the open bar area, including an amazing wine cellar that is visible to those who are dining. They also offer an outdoor dining area, as well as an indoor/outdoor area that mimics a sunroom and is very inviting.

momos pizzeria and ristorante lincoln nebraskaWhile pizza is their specialty, MōMō serves a large selection of Contorno (small plates, tapas and appetizers), pasta, salads, sandwiches and entrees. These are all made from scratch with an acknowledgement of seasons, as their ingredients are fresh and either come in directly from Italy or are locally sourced whenever possible. All of MōMō’s menu offerings are created to be shared with family and friends, and even among co-workers in our case! We enjoyed a selection of Cotorno plates including a seasoned and marinated olive medley, Shrimp Scampi, Beef Short Ribs, Tuna Crudo, and Warm Golden Beets. These were all equally impressive, and it was surprising how incredibly flavorful each dish was. Among other items on the menu, the Tuna Crudo is served atop a Himalayan pink salt block which enhances the flavor even more. Furthermore, each menu offering is cooked to perfection—especially the Beef Short Ribs, which are made with Omega Beef and literally melt in your mouth.  The beets and olives were unexpectedly delicious; even though they were cooked, their texture was still spot on. We also tried a few of their featured salads—the House, Caesar, and Grape and Gorgonzola.  You can really taste the homemade quality and freshness in their dressings; even their simple red wine and candied pecan honey balsamic vinaigrettes were to-die-for.

When we were presented with our entrees, the smell of the food and the presentation were incredible to say the least.  Our selection of pastas included the Spaghetti Bolognese, Fettuccine Alfredo and Penne Puttanesca.  Each provided a unique take on the Italian classics, and while they looked simple, the taste of each dish was surprisingly complex and savory. We were particularly impressed with the presentation of the Cedar Plank Salmon, which comes out in a linear display of salmon, asparagus and herb potatoes that are all fire roasted and together create the perfect, well-rounded meal. MōMō’s signature pizza is hand-tossed, Neapolitan style, baked in a wood fired stone hearth oven. Within the first few bites, we discovered that this pizza is delightfully light and simple yet combines unique ingredients that you wouldn’t normally think of eating together—such as the popular Prosciutto and Egg pizza which combines over easy eggs, fresh mozzarella, sea salt, olive oil and prosciutto arugula. This is perfect for those who want to be pushed outside of their comfort zone but don’t want to try anything that is too intense.

As we never skip dessert, we made sure to save a little bit of room and certainly were not disappointed.  The Tiramisu has quickly become a favorite among guests and the Pistachio Gelato, which is served in a Himalayan salt block that has been crafted into a bowl, is unique and absolutely divine.  All of the menu items offered at MōMō were created to pair perfectly with their selection of hand-picked wines, as well as their great compliment of signature cocktails, which definitely enhances the meal and the complete, overall experience.
